The Hellenic National Military Airworthiness Authority (HNMAA) is an independent organisational unit within the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), reporting directly to the Chief of HNDGS, based in Athens.
HNMAA was established by article 39 of Law 4609/2019 (Government Gazette A’67) and the Presidential Decree 85/2020 (Government Gazette A’198), started its operation in March 2021 and is housed at the Vyronas Air Force Camp.

Quote «ΟΠΕΡ ΕΔΕΙ ΔΕΙΞΑΙ» (Quod Erat Demonstrandum)
Ancient Greek phrase used by Greek mathematicians, such as Euclid and Archimedes, when completing a mathematical proof.
This phrase implies that ensuring the airworthiness of military aircraft, which is the mission of the HNMAA, is achieved through the thorough study of technical data, and the selection and application of appropriate methods, processes and procedures in the design, production and maintenance of aeronautical products in order to demonstrate and verify their capability for safe use in flight throughout their life cycle. Successful completion of the verification process shall be validated by the issue of a permit or certificate of airworthiness, i.e. “QUOD ERAT DEMONSTRANDUM”. The phrase and its abbreviation “Q.E.D.” are used with a similar meaning in international literature.
The emblem shows:
- Daedalus forging one of Icarus’ wings, symbolising the aircraft design and production activities.
- A modern military aircraft with a flight track emanating from Daedalus, symbolising the development of aeronautical technology.
- The three colours of the stripes of the flight track correspond to each Branch of the Hellenic Armed Forces, indicating the interdisciplinary character of HNMAA.
- The combination of the two representations symbolises the evolution of aeronautical product design and manufacturing, from the pioneering mythical construction of the Daedalus and the prevailing 20th century approach, to the modern 21st century philosophy by which the design, manufacturing and maintenance of aeronautical products follow defined principles, standards and control procedures, with the aim of verifying their capability for safe use, which is the main objective of airworthiness.
- The azure background colour represents the bright blue sky of Greece.
