Airworthiness Council

The Airworthiness Council is a collective body that delivers opinions on airworthiness matters, following questions submitted to it by the Commander of the Authority.

The Airworthiness Council operates in accordance with the provisions on collective bodies stipulated in the Administrative Procedure Code (ratified by Law 2690/1999, Government Gazette A’45).

The Airworthiness Council delivers opinions on:

  • The Hellenic Military Airworthiness Regulations (ELMARs), as well as on any other matter of legislative or regulatory nature, upon recommendations of the competent directorates of the Authority;
  • The necessity to incorporate European Military Airworthiness Requirements into the ELMARs;
  • The approval of deviations – exemptions to the airworthiness criteria and provisions of the ELMARs;
  • The granting, suspension and revocation of licences issued by the Authority to organisations;
  • The approval of the type design, the certification basis and criteria for new products, systems and parts;
  • The issuance of military type certificates of products and permits to fly;
  • The approval of the certification of major changes in products;
  • The issuance of airworthiness directives, concerning the suspension of use of products for reasons of flight–ground safety;
  • Matters pertinent to the recognition of foreign airworthiness authorities, as well as of certificates and licences issued by those authorities;
  • Any other airworthiness matter, the Authority Commander considers necessary.

The Airworthiness Council is constituted as a body, by decision of the Commander of the Authority and shall be composed of:

  • The Deputy Commander of the Authority, as Chairman;
  • The Directors and the Head of the Department of Legal Support of the Authority, as Members;
  • The authorised representatives of the Directorates of the General Staffs of the Branches of the Armed Forces, responsible for managing airworthiness matters, as Members.
  • The Airworthiness Council may invite third parties to provide information or data, depending on the items on the agenda.
