The Hellenic National Military Airworthiness Authority (HNMAA) announces the successful completion of the certification process of the Hellenic Configuration of the NH90 helicopter, with the issuance of the Military Type Certificate (MTC) with number HNMAA.MTC.001.
The MTC was issued on 16 September 2025, constituting the first Military Type Certificate issued by the HNMAA. The process was completed following a thorough verification of the helicopter’s design, which was carried out in close cooperation with NHIndustries (NHI), as the responsible design organisation, and the French Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA), the Authority responsible for the initial type certification.
The official handover ceremony of the MTC to NHI as the MTC Holder took place on 28 November 2025. The event was attended by the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), General Dimitrios Choupis, who in his speech highlighted the importance of the integration of NH90 helicopters into the Hellenic Armed Forces, as well as the decisive contribution of the HNMAA in the inspection and certification of the airworthiness of aircraft and other aeronautical systems. The ceremony was also attended by representatives of the DGA, AIRBUS, NHIndustries and the Embassy of France in Greece, underscoring the high level of international cooperation that characterized the certification process.
The issuance of the Military Type Certificate for the NH90 is incorporated into the regulatory framework of the Hellenic Military Airworthiness Regulation (ELMAR) 21 and constitutes a fundamental step for ensuring the initial, continued, and continuing airworthiness of the helicopter by the Hellenic Army. The HNMAA will continue its work with the implementation of corresponding procedures for all types of aircraft of the Hellenic Armed Forces, in accordance with the requirements of the applicable regulatory framework.
